Sutton strengthens title grip as Cook and Doble share Croft victories

The 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship delivered another dramatic triple-header at Croft, with Josh Cook, Ash Sutton and Mikey Doble each taking victory across three action-packed races in North Yorkshire.

Cook opened proceedings with a rain-affected win before Sutton produced a dominant display in Round 23, taking his 55th career BTCC victory and extending his advantage at the top of the standings. Doble then completed the weekend with a second win of the season in the reverse-grid finale, leading home a strong result for LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing.

While Sutton’s closest challengers endured mixed fortunes, none could make a significant dent in the championship leader’s advantage. Dan Cammish now sits 115 points behind Sutton, with reigning champion Tom Ingram a further eight points adrift as the title battle heads towards its conclusion.

Round 22

Speedworks Corolla Racing’s Josh Cook converted pole position into victory in a rain-affected Round 22 of the 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at Croft.

Cook led home championship contender Ash Sutton and reigning champion Tom Ingram after a frantic race in which tyre strategy and track limits played a major role.

Several drivers started the green flag lap on the Goodyear hard tyre before diving into the pits to switch to wets, sacrificing track position in the short term in order to free themselves of the slower compound for the remaining races.

Cook was already on wet tyres and made the most of the decision, leading a tight four-car group that also featured NAPA Racing UK’s Dan Cammish, Sutton and Ingram.

The NAPA pairing initially worked together, with Sutton effectively acting as rear guard as Cammish attempted to keep Ingram at bay. The Team VERTU Hyundai increasingly appeared to have the pace to challenge, however, as conditions evolved and the wet tyres began to lose performance.

Both Cammish and Ingram were handed five second penalties for track-limit infringements, adding another layer of intrigue to the fight for victory.

Ingram eventually made his move on Sutton at Sunny after the four-time champion ran wide, before quickly closing on Cammish. The Hyundai then moved ahead of the NAPA Ford, while Cook was warned that Ingram was carrying a penalty.

Ingram subsequently passed Cook on the penultimate lap, but the Toyota driver knew he remained in control of the race on corrected time. Cook duly took the chequered flag to secure his latest BTCC victory, with Sutton classified second and Ingram third.

Cammish finished fourth, while Ricky Collard brought the leading Team VERTU Hyundai home in fifth.

Daryl De Leon produced one of the drives of the race to finish sixth and claim the Independents’ victory. The WSR BMW driver briefly ran as high as second early on before a sideways moment dropped him down the order, but he fought back strongly through the field.

Charles Rainford made it a double top-seven finish for WSR, while Aiden Moffat, Daniel Rowbottom and Mikey Doble completed the top ten for LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing and CPRL respectively.

Round 23

Ash Sutton moved another step closer to a fifth British Touring Car Championship title with a dominant victory in Round 23 at Croft, as the NAPA Racing UK driver claimed his 55th career win.

Starting alongside pole-sitter Josh Cook, Sutton produced the move of the race on the opening lap, sweeping around the outside of the Speedworks Corolla Racing driver at Tower to take the lead.

From there, Sutton established a comfortable advantage and was never seriously threatened, extending his championship lead in the process.

The victory also saw Sutton move ahead of Gordon Shedden in the BTCC’s all-time winners standings. Only Jason Plato, Colin Turkington, Matt Neal and Andy Rouse now sit ahead of him on the list.

Behind Sutton, Daniel Rowbottom and Ricky Collard battled for second, with both drivers later handed five-second penalties for track-limit infringements. Neither lost their position, however, having built enough of a cushion over the cars behind.

Rowbottom therefore secured second for CPRL, with Collard completing the podium for Team VERTU.

Dan Cammish recovered to fourth after a difficult opening lap dropped the NAPA Racing UK driver down the order. He fought his way back through the field with a series of strong overtakes, although contact with championship rival Tom Ingram sent the reigning champion into the barrier. Cammish was able to continue and held fourth at the finish.

Charles Rainford completed another strong day for WSR by taking fifth overall and the Independents’ victory. It marked a second consecutive Independent success for the BMW squad after Daryl De Leon had taken the class honours earlier in the day.

Shedden was sixth for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport, followed by local driver Dan Lloyd in the Restart Racing Hyundai.

Tom Chilton brought his Team VERTU car home eighth, while LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing’s Aiden Moffat and Mikey Doble completed the top 10.

The PMR pair’s results also secured them a front-row start for the reverse-grid race later in the day, setting up another opportunity for the squad to fight for victory at Croft.

Round 24

Mikey Doble claimed his second victory of the 2026 British Touring Car Championship season in Round 24 at Croft, leading home a dominant LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing performance in the reverse-grid race.

Starting from pole in the #88 Audi A3 Saloon, Doble made the most of his advantage as team-mate Aiden Moffat provided valuable protection in the early stages. The pair quickly established a gap at the front before Doble was able to break clear.

It marked another significant milestone for Doble, who has now tripled his career BTCC win tally since the beginning of the campaign. His first victory came on the Audi’s debut at Donington Park in April, but he had been forced to wait until Croft for his second.

The race was immediately disrupted by a major incident at Turn 1 on the opening lap. Contact between NAPA Racing UK’s Dan Cammish and Team VERTU’s Ricky Collard sent Collard’s car spinning into the path of the following field.

Ash Sutton and Árón Taylor-Smith were among those caught up in the melee, while both Collard and Taylor-Smith were forced into retirement. The incident prompted an early safety car while the damaged cars were recovered.

When racing resumed, Doble retained the lead with Moffat still running second. Team VERTU’s Tom Chilton eventually found a way past Moffat to move into the runner-up position, while Gordon Shedden produced a strong drive to complete the podium for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport.

Behind the leading trio, Josh Cook and Adam Morgan delivered two of the drives of the race. Cook charged from 22nd on the grid to finish fourth for Speedworks Corolla Racing, while Morgan climbed from 15th to fifth for CPRL.

Moffat held on for sixth after a determined defensive drive on the Goodyear hard tyre, resisting pressure to secure a strong result alongside Doble.

Doble’s victory capped a difficult but rewarding weekend for PMR, giving the Audi A3 Saloon another race win and providing further evidence of the progress made by the new car since its debut earlier in the season.
