Sutton strengthens title charge as Oulton Park delivers drama

The 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship reached its halfway point at Oulton Park, where three fiercely contested races added further twists to an already captivating title battle. Dan Cammish opened proceedings with a commanding lights-to-flag victory for NAPA Racing UK before teammate and championship leader Ash Sutton produced a dominant charge to victory in Round 11. The weekend concluded with WSR’s Charles Rainford claiming his second win of the season in a dramatic reverse-grid finale. Across the three races, Oulton Park once again delivered close racing, safety car interruptions and standout drives, while Sutton further strengthened his position at the top of the standings heading into the second half of the campaign.

Round 10

Dan Cammish continued his resurgence in the 2026 British Touring Car Championship with a commanding lights-to-flag victory in Round 10 at Oulton Park, converting pole position into his first BTCC race win at the Cheshire circuit.

Having already claimed victory in Saturday’s Qualifying Race, the NAPA Racing UK driver completed a near-perfect start to the weekend by controlling the opening race of the day around the demanding 2.26-mile venue.

The Yorkshireman made a clean getaway from pole and immediately came under pressure from Speedworks Corolla Racing’s Josh Cook. Much like their battle in the Qualifying Race, the pair remained closely matched throughout much of the contest, with Cook rarely allowing Cammish any breathing space at the front.

Despite the sustained pressure, Cammish remained composed to secure his 18th BTCC victory and continue a strong turnaround after a challenging opening phase of the season. The result also reignited his championship ambitions as the campaign entered its second half.

Cook’s route to second place was far from straightforward. The Toyota driver was involved in contact with championship leader Ash Sutton during the early stages before later finding himself under intense pressure from reigning champion Tom Ingram.

Ingram once again demonstrated the pace of the Team VERTU Hyundai i30 N, steadily working his way into podium contention and closing onto the rear of Cook’s Corolla during the closing laps. However, despite his efforts, the reigning champion was unable to find a way through and had to settle for third.

Árón Taylor-Smith backed up his strong pace from qualifying with fourth place for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport. The Irishman also secured the Independent Drivers’ victory, continuing an impressive run of form following his recent win at Brands Hatch.

One of the closest battles of the race involved the LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing teammates Aiden Moffat and Mikey Doble. The Audi A3 Saloon pair spent much of the race running nose-to-tail in a hard-fought but respectful contest before finishing fifth and sixth respectively.

Sutton endured a frustrating afternoon despite showing strong pace throughout. The championship leader initially challenged for second place before dropping down the order following his contact with Cook. A determined recovery drive brought him back into contention, but another setback followed when he ran straight on at the chicane while battling Cataclean Plato Racing’s Adam Morgan.

The incident effectively ended Sutton’s hopes of a stronger result, forcing the NAPA Racing UK driver to settle for seventh at the chequered flag.

Morgan’s race proved even more disappointing. After running competitively inside the top ten, the Mercedes A35 Saloon driver was forced to retire to the pitlane with a mechanical problem.

Behind Sutton, Team VERTU’s Tom Chilton added further points for the Hyundai squad in eighth position, while Restart Racing’s Chris Smiley continued his consistent form with ninth.

WSR’s Daryl DeLeon completed the top ten, ensuring another points finish for the BMW team.

For Cammish, however, the spotlight belonged firmly to him. Having endured a mixed start to the season, the NAPA Racing UK driver arrived at Oulton Park searching for momentum and left the opening race of the weekend with back-to-back victories and renewed belief that he can yet play a significant role in the 2026 championship fight.

Round 11

Ash Sutton strengthened his grip on the 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship with a dominant victory in Round 11 at Oulton Park, charging from seventh on the grid to secure his fifth win of the campaign.

The NAPA Racing UK driver made full use of the Goodyear soft tyre and an improved allocation of TOCA Turbo Boost to carve his way through the field, eventually passing both Team VERTU’s Tom Ingram and teammate Dan Cammish on his way to the front.

Having started behind the leading contenders, Sutton quickly established himself as the fastest driver on track. Once he reached the back of Cammish, the race leader offered little resistance, recognising that Sutton’s pace advantage would be difficult to contain over the remaining laps.

From there, Sutton disappeared into the distance, crossing the line more than 19 seconds clear of the chasing pack to further extend his championship advantage.

Behind the runaway winner, Ingram and Cammish enjoyed strong races on the harder Goodyear tyre compound. Both drivers managed their races effectively and pulled away from the midfield battle before Ingram eventually found a way past the NAPA Racing UK Ford to claim second place.

Cammish completed the podium after another solid performance, ensuring two NAPA Racing UK cars finished inside the top three.

Árón Taylor-Smith spent much of the race holding up a queue of cars behind his Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport Toyota. The Irishman had shown impressive pace throughout the weekend but was unable to replicate his earlier form as the race developed.

WSR’s Daryl De Leon spent much of the contest searching for a way past Taylor-Smith before finally making his move in the closing stages. The pass secured fourth place overall and the Independents’ victory for the BMW driver.

Mikey Doble continued his strong season with fifth for LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing, while Gordon Shedden added more points to his tally in sixth.

Taylor-Smith crossed the line seventh ahead of Team VERTU’s Ricky Collard, Steel Seal with Power Maxed Racing’s Dexter Patterson and WSR’s Charles Rainford.

However, the final classification was altered after the race when Taylor-Smith received a ten-second penalty for his involvement in an incident with Team VERTU’s Tom Chilton. The penalty dropped him out of the top ten and promoted NAPA Racing UK’s Sam Osborne into the final points-paying position.

For Sutton, the victory represented another significant step in his title challenge, with the four-time champion once again demonstrating why he remains the driver to beat in the 2026 BTCC season.

Charles Rainford became the second multiple race winner of the 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season after producing a commanding drive to victory in Round 12 at Oulton Park.

The WSR driver made full use of the Goodyear soft tyre to secure his second triumph of the campaign, bringing an entertaining weekend in Cheshire to a close and further strengthening his position in the championship standings.

Restart Racing’s Chris Smiley started from pole position in the reverse-grid finale, but with several soft tyre runners lining up immediately behind him, the Hyundai driver faced a difficult task in holding onto the lead.

Rainford wasted little time in making progress. The BMW 330i M Sport launched superbly off the line and was already up to second place by the approach to Old Hall Corner for the first time, immediately putting himself in position to challenge for victory.

The opening lap was soon interrupted by a major incident involving Árón Taylor-Smith and Adam Morgan. Taylor-Smith lost control of his Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport Toyota on cold tyres through Old Hall Corner and, while attempting to regain control, made contact with Morgan’s Cataclean Plato Racing Mercedes. Both cars were eliminated from the race on the spot, prompting the deployment of the safety car.

When racing resumed, Rainford wasted no time in attacking Smiley. Carrying impressive speed out of Old Hall Corner, the BMW driver swept around the outside of the Restart Racing Hyundai and completed a bold move before the pair reached Cascades, taking a lead he would never relinquish.

Behind them, Team VERTU teammates Ricky Collard and Tom Ingram quickly moved ahead of the fading Smiley and looked set to challenge Rainford for victory.

A second safety car period temporarily interrupted proceedings after Tom Chilton and Lewis Selby became entangled at Cascades. Contact between the Team VERTU Hyundai and the NAPA Racing UK Ford sent both cars into the barriers, requiring another neutralisation.

Despite the interruptions, Rainford remained firmly in control whenever racing resumed. The WSR driver managed each restart perfectly and steadily edged away from his pursuers to secure a comfortable victory.

Collard continued his strong run of form by taking second place for Team VERTU, while reigning champion Ingram completed the podium in third.

Dan Cammish added another solid points haul for NAPA Racing UK in fourth, with Speedworks Corolla Racing’s Josh Cook finishing fifth.

One of the standout performances came from Dan Rowbottom, who produced arguably his strongest drive of the season. The Cataclean Plato Racing driver spent much of the race pressuring Smiley before finally making a decisive move to secure sixth place and his second top-six finish of the year.

Dexter Patterson continued his impressive campaign with seventh for Steel Seal with Power Maxed Racing, while championship leader Ash Sutton salvaged eighth after a difficult reverse-grid race.

LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing’s Aiden Moffat completed the top ten, ensuring another points finish for the Audi squad.

Rainford’s victory concluded a dramatic Oulton Park weekend that featured multiple safety car periods, significant incidents and a second win of the season for the WSR driver, establishing him as one of the standout performers of the 2026 campaign so far.
