Rounds 16, 17 and 18 of the 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship delivered another unpredictable weekend of racing at Knockhill, with three different winners from three different teams across the weekend. Cataclean Plato Racing emerged as the standout story, with Adam Morgan taking victory in the ‘Race to Pole’ before converting that form into a breakthrough race win, while teammate Daniel Rowbottom completed a memorable one-two for the Mercedes squad.

Championship leader Ash Sutton added another victory for NAPA Racing UK, while Team VERTU’s Tom Chilton ended the weekend with a dominant finale win. Sutton strengthened his position at the head of the standings, extending his advantage over Tom Ingram, while Dan Cammish continued to close in on second place. With the title fight entering its next phase and the Independents’ and Jack Sears Trophy battles also developing, Knockhill provided another significant chapter in the 2026 campaign.

Round 16

Adam Morgan converted pole position into a landmark victory in Round 16 of the 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at Knockhill, leading Cataclean Plato Racing to its first overall BTCC win with a dominant one-two finish alongside teammate Daniel Rowbottom.

The result marked a significant milestone for the rookie squad, which has made clear progress with its Mercedes A35 Saloons since the mid-season break. Following its first podium at Thruxton and Morgan’s ‘Race to Pole’ success at Knockhill on Saturday, the team completed a remarkable progression by taking its first main-race victory.

Morgan was forced to manage difficult conditions throughout the contest, with heavy rain making the already challenging Scottish circuit particularly treacherous. Despite the conditions and a late safety car intervention, the Lancashire driver remained in control at the front.

Rowbottom provided the perfect support act, running strongly in second and ensuring the Mercedes duo maintained their advantage during the closing stages. The two teammates worked together effectively, with Rowbottom effectively acting as rear gunner to protect Morgan’s lead.

The fight for the final podium position was considerably less straightforward.

Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport’s Gordon Shedden initially occupied second before Rowbottom produced an impressive move to demote the three-time champion. Shedden was then forced to defend from two of the championship’s leading contenders, Ash Sutton and Tom Ingram.

Sutton produced one of the drives of the race, charging from 11th on the grid and making a series of impressive overtaking moves in the increasingly difficult conditions. The NAPA Racing UK driver eventually moved ahead of Ingram, putting himself into contention for another podium finish.

However, Ingram gradually closed the gap to his title rival in the closing stages, forcing Sutton to switch his focus from attacking Shedden to defending his own position.

Shedden ultimately held on for third, denying both championship contenders and securing a home-circuit podium in front of the Knockhill crowd. Between them, Shedden, Sutton and Ingram brought an incredible nine BTCC Drivers’ Championships worth of experience to the battle for the final rostrum place.

Team VERTU’s Ricky Collard came home sixth after another strong drive, while the Audi A3 Saloons dominated the next three positions.

Dexter Patterson led the Audi contingent in seventh for Steel Seal with Power Maxed Racing, followed by teammate Mikey Doble. Aiden Moffat produced another impressive recovery drive, charging from the back of the grid to finish ninth and complete a strong showing for the Power Maxed Racing operation.

NAPA Racing UK’s Sam Osborne concluded the top ten.

The NAPA Racing UK driver made rapid progress at the start, dispatching Gordon Shedden and Adam Morgan before setting his sights on the Cataclean Plato Racing Mercedes of Daniel Rowbottom at the front.

Rowbottom had made an excellent start and produced a strong defensive performance in the early stages. Running the harder Goodyear tyre and with limited turbo boost available, the Mercedes driver nevertheless managed to keep the championship leader at bay for much of the contest.

Sutton eventually found a way through at the final hairpin, diving down the inside of Rowbottom’s Mercedes to take control of the race.

The battle behind was affected by a dramatic opening lap, with Sutton’s main title rival Tom Ingram forced to retire. The Team VERTU driver had already reported a power problem away from the grid before making contact with Shedden’s Toyota on the approach to the chicane.

The resulting damage to Ingram’s Hyundai i30 N required an immediate pit stop, bringing a premature end to his race and costing the reigning champion further ground in the championship.

Local driver Aiden Moffat was another early retirement after his LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing Audi was caught up in a separate incident.

Two safety car periods interrupted the race, with the second neutralisation leaving the field with only a single lap of racing remaining. Sutton handled the restart without issue to secure another important victory.

Rowbottom held on to second, while Ricky Collard completed the podium for Team VERTU after another impressive performance from the Hyundai driver.

Mikey Doble produced a strong recovery to finish fourth for LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing, while Adam Morgan continued Cataclean Plato Racing’s excellent Knockhill weekend with fifth.

Morgan had started the race strongly and, like Rowbottom, was running the harder Goodyear compound with limited boost. His result gave the Mercedes squad another strong points haul following its one-two finish in the opening race.

Charles Rainford was one of the standout performers further down the order. After a difficult first race, the WSR driver charged from 21st on the grid to finish sixth, making significant progress through the field.

Shedden eventually finished seventh, adding another solid result for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport, while Dexter Patterson followed in eighth for Steel Seal with Power Maxed Racing.

NAPA Racing UK’s Dan Cammish and Sam Osborne completed the top ten, with teammate Lewis Selby finishing 11th.

Chilton controlled the finale from the front, producing a measured drive to cap a difficult campaign with a much-needed second victory of the season. The #3 Hyundai i30N had shown improved pace throughout the weekend and Chilton made the most of it to lead every lap and take the chequered flag clear of the chasing pack.
