The BTCC headed to Oulton Park for the final round before the mid-season break, with bright skies punctuated by heavy showers adding an extra layer of intrigue to the Cheshire circuit. Drivers faced rapidly changing conditions as they battled across the track, knowing that every lap could influence their championship positions before the series paused. With title contenders and the chasing pack all looking to make an impact, anticipation was high for a dramatic weekend of racing.

Ingram Dominates as Smiley Steals Late Podium Drama at Oulton Park

Tom Ingram delivered a commanding lights-to-flag victory in the opening race of BTCC Round 13 at Oulton Park, converting pole position into maximum points to take his third win of the season. The EXCELR8 driver maintained control throughout a race full of drama, overtakes, and team tensions.

From the start, Ingram looked composed and in control. Despite early pressure and a safety car interruption, the 2022 champion expertly managed his pace to keep NAPA Racing UK’s Dan Cammish behind and cross the line comfortably in first. The safety car was brought out following contact between Stephen Jelley and Sam Osborne as the pair tangled exiting Island Bend. Both drivers were able to continue, but their races were effectively over.

Cammish moved into second on the opening lap, slipping past front-row starter Chris Smiley at the first opportunity. Smiley, however, wasn’t finished. Running much of the race in fourth, the Restart Racing driver produced one of the standout moves of the day by diving around the outside of Ash Sutton at Cascades in the closing stages to claim the final step on the podium. It was a bold and clean manoeuvre that earned him widespread praise.

Sutton, who had been positioned to finish third, opted not to fight Smiley too aggressively. By settling for fourth, he preserved a favourable tyre allocation for Race 2, selecting the softer compound to mount a potential challenge later in the day.

Senna Proctor, Josh Cook, and James Dorlin completed the top ten, with the midfield providing plenty of close battles and position changes. Further down the order, rookies Dexter Patterson and Max Hall collided again entering Hislops, marking their second clash of the season and ending both of their races prematurely.

Sutton Strikes on Softs for Fourth Win of the Season

Ash Sutton produced a masterclass in tyre strategy and overtaking to claim victory in Race 2 at Oulton Park, taking his fourth BTCC win of the 2025 season. Starting from fourth on the grid, he capitalised on the soft tyre compound to slice through the pack and strengthen his hold at the top of the championship standings.

Sutton was the first of the soft-tyre runners and made it count immediately, quickly passing Chris Smiley before teammate Dan Cammish moved aside to allow the title contender through. His main challenge came from Race 1 winner Tom Ingram, who defended strongly in the opening laps. However, a decisive move at Island Hairpin saw Sutton dive down the inside and take the lead, a manoeuvre that would ultimately secure his victory.

While Sutton pulled clear at the front, the fight behind him intensified. The Vertu duo of Adam Morgan and Tom Chilton relegated Ingram to fourth. Both drivers showed strong pace and handled their tyres superbly, making their mark in the top positions.

Ingram, running the harder compound tyre, held on well despite the pressure. Reigning champion Jake Hill also pushed hard but ultimately had to settle for fifth after a valiant effort.

Daniel Rowbottom and Josh Cook took sixth and seventh respectively, taking advantage of a late-race drop in pace from Senna Proctor. The returning driver slipped to eighth as bodywork rubbing against his front-left tyre hampered his speed.

Gordon Shedden and Dan Cammish completed the top ten after a tense midfield battle. Attention then turned to the reverse grid draw, with broadcasting legend Steve Rider, appearing for his final time as presenter, selecting Gordon Shedden to start on pole for Race 3.

Shedden Shines at Oulton with First Win Since 2022

Gordon Shedden produced a sensational lights-to-flag performance in Race 3 at Oulton Park, securing victory for Toyota Gazoo Racing and becoming the tenth different race winner in just 15 races of the 2025 season. The triumph capped off the first half of the campaign in dramatic style.

Starting from pole following the reverse grid draw, Shedden got off to a perfect start and maintained control throughout. The three-time champion faced sustained pressure from Jake Hill, who stayed glued to the back of the Toyota for much of the race, while NAPA Racing UK teammates Dan Rowbottom and Ash Sutton kept close behind.

As the laps wound down, Hill attempted a final move through Cascades but ran wide onto the grass, rejoining further back in seventh and losing his chance at the podium.

With Hill falling away, Ash Sutton seized second place, adding valuable points to his title campaign, while Dan Rowbottom followed closely to complete a strong NAPA Racing UK double podium finish for the weekend.

Tom Ingram produced one of the standout drives of the race, climbing from outside the top ten to finish a hard-fought fourth. The EXCELR8 driver made several decisive overtakes in the second half of the race, showcasing his championship-winning consistency.

The midfield also saw drama as Tom Chilton and Mikey Doble collided at the entry to Hislops. Doble was spun off the circuit, while Chilton continued briefly with his bonnet flapping over the windscreen, drastically limiting visibility, before being forced to retire shortly after.
