BSB Brands Hatch Summer Round

Brands Hatch marked the half way point of the ZYN British Superbike Championship, with the iconic Kent circuit providing the backdrop for a thrilling weekend of two-wheeled action. From close-fought battles on track to the electric atmosphere around the paddock, fans were treated to another spectacular showcase of British motorcycle racing at one of the championship’s most famous venues. 

Once again the battles were fierce between title rivals Kyle Ryde and Scott Redding, who duked it out for top honours all weekend. It was also a strong showing for Max Cook on the Bimota picking up three podiums across the weekend. In race one Kyle Ryde did what he does best by taking a dominant victory over Scott Redding, strengthening his position at the top of the championship standings. Ryde controlled the race from the front, managing the pressure throughout to cross the line ahead of his rivals. 

It was once again Ryde on the top step of the podium in race two, however the reigning champion faced an early challenge from Redding, with the pair engaging in an intense battle in the early stages. During the final BSB race Scott Redding managed to hold off the charge from Kyle Ryde, an early safety car would tighten things up between the title rivals but Redding kept his cool and went on to take victory in race three ahead of Ryde and Max Cook in third. 

Arguably the best and therefore closest racing of the weekend came in British Supersport, which saw thrilling battles between the top seven riders in both races, constantly swapping positions, lap in lap out. It was the son of World Superbike legend Troy Bayliss, Oli. Who secured top spot in both races with hard fought battles from those behind including 4x Supersport champion Jack Kennedy and previous champion, Ben Currie, as well the likes of Luke Stapleford and Dean Harrison to name a few. 

As always the stars of the future in British Moto 4 put on a brilliant showing through both of their 14 lappers, race one saw Marco Holt claim his first victory of the season after an incredible fight with Jack Dunabie. The pair traded the lead throughout the race before Holt made his decisive move at Hawthorns, only for Dunabie to fight back and lead through the final corner. However on the run to the line, Holt managed to clinch the win by 0.021s, with Ryan Frost rounding out the podium. The second race was just as close, with Dunabie snatching the win by 0.023s in a six rider train.

The Superstock class produced close and competitive racing across the weekend, with David Allingham taking both Superstock victories. The action remained tight throughout the field with Luke Mossey and Lewis Rollo among those fighting for the podium places. There was also a nasty incident for title contender Josh Owens who highsided out of Clearways in race two, but thankfully he walked away unscathed. 

Other support classes featured Sportbike and the F900R cup who also put on a great showing over the weekend. A fantastic event unfolded at Brands and the championship heads to Oulton Park for round 6 next weekend, another track that lends itself to great racing.
