John is a mechanical design engineer from Staffordshire with a deep passion for photography and rallying. His photography journey began at the age of ten with a Canon Powershot A95 on a holiday in Gibraltar, and after years of borrowing his dad’s DSLRs, he eventually bought his own Canon 1200D. Although university and work briefly pulled him away from the camera, he rediscovered his love for photography in 2020 through landscapes—taking the craft more seriously and learning Lightroom. That renewed spark soon evolved into a strong passion for capturing the grit, speed, and atmosphere of rally cars.
Today, John is most often found standing trackside in the damp forests of Wales or Scotland, photographing rallying in its purest form. He loves the versatility of the sport, where an M-Sport Fiesta can be seen attacking the same stages as a humble Nissan Micra, all set against dramatic and often breathtaking scenery. Outside of motorsport, he enjoys walking, especially in the Lake District, and has a growing love for road trips with plans for longer adventures across Europe. He’s also diving into a new challenge—turning an early 2000s Land Rover Defender into an overlanding camper, a project he fully expects to take over his life. For John, photography is about capturing the moment and documenting the highs, lows, and stories that rallying creates. His dream events to shoot include any WRC round, with Sweden and Finland topping the list, closely followed by Portugal.

A little bit about you?
By day I am a mechanical design engineer based in Staffordshire who has a passion for photography and rallies.
Where did your photography Journey start ?
I got my first camera (a Canon Powershot A95) at around 10 on holiday in Gibraltar. After years borrowing my dad’s DSLRs, I eventually got my own Canon 1200D. University and work life got in the way so photography fell by the wayside. In 2020 I picked it back up for landscape photography, this is where I started to take photography seriously and started to use Lightroom. I soon discovered a new passion for photographing rally cars.
What sort of photography do you do now?
I can often be found beside a damp Welsh or Scottish track, photographing rally cars. What I love most is the versatility of rallying, you might see an M-Sport Fiesta tackling the same stages as a humble Nissan Micra. It’s motorsport in its rawest form. Many events also take place in stunning locations with epic backdrops, which links perfectly back to where my photography journey began in 2020.
What are your other interests?
Outside of photography, I love walking and spending as much time as possible in the Lake District. I love to go on road trips and plan to go on a few long trips round Europe. For my sins, I’m also about to buy an early 2000s Land Rover Defender and convert it into an overlanding camper. I suspect this project is going to take over my life, whether I want it to or not.
What is your number one goal from doing photography?
It might sound cliché, but my goal is simply to capture the moment, whether that’s for a team, for the fans, or for myself. I want to document the highs and lows of rallying and the journeys this sport takes us on.
What is your dream event to capture?
Any of the WRC events, but for me personally it has to be either WRC Sweden or WRC Finland. Although Portugal is up there on the bucket list as well.
